Dulwich Festival

Presenting new and original work by fine artists and Maggi Hambling protégés Keith Ashley and Leo Crane, exploring the narrative and creative power of monotype ink and charcoal. Part of Artists' Open House at Dulwich Festival 2023.

A contemplation in mortality, Keith Ashley’s The Messenger examines the enduring fascination and symbolism of the crow, depicting it in a starkly ominous landscape which allows the artist to experiment with mark making, creating prints rich in depth and complexity.

Leo Crane has a keen interest in the human figure, drawing from life using fast fluid strokes to capture the relationship between the subject and the space around them. Life in Charcoal exemplifies this, conveying self-expression through gesture and movement, with particular reference to the nude.

Hosted in partnership with West Norwood Picturehouse. Artists will be on-site on:

Saturday 13th May, 10 - 5 pm

Sunday 14th May, 10 - 5 pm

Saturday 20th May, 10 - 5 pm

Sunday 21st May, 10 - 5 pm

Sales proceeds go towards supporting the artist and funding public programmes in advancing and diversifying engagement in visual storytelling.
