Jodi Jones | Pathways

“I always feel a sense of relief and calm in nature. Whether it’s my local park in south London or the expanse of Cornwall or the Quantock Woods in Somerset, I try to capture that sense of wonder, peace and balance in my artwork.”

Jodi Jones is a mixed-media artist inspired by the natural world. She graduated from Bath College with a BA Hons in 1995 and has since been exhibiting in group and solo shows in London and Ireland. She continues to hone her craft, travelling the world to find inspiration, taking courses and experimenting in new techniques and different mediums.

Pathways is an exploration of Jodi’s response to the many places in nature she has visited over the last few years and incorporating a range of techniques and mediums, from printmaking to painting and collage. The work begins with gathering source material: pieces of wood or plants, sketches, rubbings, swatches of colour and taking photographs. Back in the studio, she takes this material and continues to explore. She is especially interested in the naturally occurring array of subtle marks, textures and patterns, and experiments by enlarging and overlaying marks on transparent materials. Layering and taking information away is a big part of her process.

Discovering the joy of print making a few years ago has added a whole new dimension to Jodi’s work. She now focuses mainly on etching, single and multi-plate printing, and loves soft ground and sugar lift techniques as a way to make and build up marks.

A true lover of nature, Jodi finds it a massive source of inspiration, often losing herself and experiencing a magical connection where she sees the world in abstract way, with landscapes transformed into shapes and patterns. Pathways is a true reflection of the artist’s connection with the natural world.

A free exhibition of original work, with proceeds from all sales going to the artist and funding public programmes in advancing and diversifying engagement in visual storytelling.
