Jay Morally | The Colour of Darkness

“Sometimes, it’s only in our darkest moments we are able to see the brightest colours.”

Jay Morally is a self-taught multi-disciplined, mixed-media artist whose work is a manifestation of his personal experiences and the way he observes life around him. Raised in South London, where he currently resides, he observed many issues in his early years such as poverty, mental illness and violent crime. His desire to make change to the community is not only emulated in his work but fuels most of his life choices. He currently works within mental health services trying to break stigma, supporting people to get back into the community and helping them to live productive, satisfying lives.

Jay’s work has been featured at the Babylon Art Gallery in Ely, Cambridgeshire; the Peterborough Museum and Art Gallery; Tate Lates; The Artist Lounge; and Holy Art. He has also collaborated with Waitrose and Lambeth Council, is a member of the We Matter Collective and is the founder of Seduced by Art, which provides opportunities for artists and runs bespoke art workshops and events to address a range of prevailing community issues.

The Colour of Darkness explores the artist’s fascination with colour psychology, his admiration of human physiology and wild imagination. It also explores the concept that sometimes our darkest times can inspire our brightest moments if we are just able to capture them.

A free exhibition of original work, with proceeds from all sales going to the artist and funding public programmes in advancing and diversifying engagement in visual storytelling.
