Elizabeth Knapp | Unnatural World

“Inspired by my love of creatures and colour, these little 3D resin scenes invite you into my imagination - a vibrant, colourful, shiny and sometimes slightly unsettling unnatural world.”

Elizabeth Knapp’s work uses resin and fluid painting techniques. She has a visceral response to colours and patterns, being particularly drawn to organic shapes, spirals, swirls and animal themes. Her creations are the products of that instinct, brought to life by an imagination itself responding to what she sees and feels, ultimately honed by an array of fine-art skills.

Residing in Thornton Heath, Elizabeth is a member of the Crystal Palace-based Exhibit 12 collective of artists. She is also a member of House of Upcycling, the UK’s leading authority on professional upcycling, and materials-reuse continues to be a major feature of her work, often with such items as vinyl records and CDs being used as canvases. She has shown widely in London and the South East, with her work appearing in exhibitions and at craft and vintage fairs and markets such as the annual Crystal Palace Artists’ Open House.

Unnatural World, her latest solo show, is a particular celebration of Elizabeth’s work in resin. For these 3D pieces, she first created resin animals in moulds before beginning the backdrop with an acrylic paint pour. She then formed the composition, building up the layers with resin, pigment and a variety of embellishments such as sea glass, beads, rocks and glitter, creating depth and interest.

Elizabeth’s brand and ethos, When I Decorate Things, is about creating colour, pattern and happiness in her work. Through it, she creates fine art works, resin jewellery, greetings cards and other small items, and upcycles, hand-paints and decorates furniture and other wooden pieces.
