Pose! Reclaiming the Nude Life Drawing

Celebrate Pride in London 2023 with a body-powerful life drawing experience for all levels of ability.

Pose! Reclaiming the Nude, the latest exhibition from artist-animator Leo Crane, challenges traditional notions of ‘the muse’, presenting the model as artist and co-creator and, through fine art, animation and performance, presenting the Queer nude as a means of self-expression, validation and power. Art model Roy Joseph Butler enters the life room as inspiration for you to reclaim the nude, offering dynamic inspiration that explores the artistic dialogue between his poses and your creations, and empowering both.

Held in partnership with The Batsford Gallery and building on the themes in presented in Contemporary Figures in Watercolour: Speed, Gesture and Story (Crane & Butler, Batsford, 2021).

Online booking essential. Limited spaces available.

Pose! Reclaiming the Nude w/ Fimbo Butures

Celebrate Pride in London 2023 with a special performance by Fimbo Butures (Maya Williams and Lizzy Tan).

As part of the latest exhibition by Queer artist-animator Leo Crane, Pose! Reclaiming the Nude, Fimbo Butures will challenge and delight with original, experimental performance art putting the Queer body front and centre. Their work merges media, sound design, dance and camming to present a provocative haunting of the sex-working, performing body, drawing on Williams’ and Tan’s shared backgrounds as contemporary dancers and erotic artists.

Through fine art, animation and performance, the Queer nude is presented as a means of self-expression, validation and power. Expect nothing less than all three in feast of contemporary dance and erotic performance, featuring material from Fimbo Butures' upcoming show ‘For you: wicked’ at the Assembly Rooms at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in August.

‘The work is a direct criticism on the way that queer bodies of colour are commodified, poked and prodded in work; sex and art.’ (Dance Art Journal, March 2023)
