Performative multi-model life drawing with an 18th-century bent.
In partnership with Burgh House, as part of its first annual Queer Georgian Social Season, and vocal and instrumental ensemble Les Bougies Baroques, join us for a life drawing experience in the Georgian style with art muses…
…offering an eclectic display of Classically-inspired repertoire to inspire and excite the drawing public.
In the Georgian era, Classical examples of the nude and often gender-bending, sexualised ideal of the physique, as prototypically displayed in figures such as the faun, nymph, satyr, warrior, god and goddess, reached fever pitch in their popularity, provide a crucial key to LGBTQIA+ identity handed down to by the ancients through the ages, in turn establishing the centrality of the original Classical nude (as well as the Classical nude as interpreted by humankind since the ancients) within the historical development of the LGBTQIA+ community.
At By George…, we claim this legacy outright, producing an experience - an immersive show even - where the creation of art and the celebration of the nude form as both a site of Queer identities and of physical inclusivity are placed front and centre.
So, leave your preconceptions at the door, help yourself to a drink and let the creativity flow! No drawing experience is needed.
Materials, boards and paper are provided, and you are welcome to bring your own.
